How to get your guard card:

Congratulations on your interest in our Guard Skills Training.  Getting your Guard Card is a process.  First you must complete the 8hr. Power to Arrest Training.  Then you must apply with the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services for you guard card and have your livescan fingerprints done. The fee for BSIS is $50 and the livescan fee is $66 to $74 depending on the livescan facility.  It takes BSIS two to three weeks to process your application and then you should receive your Guard Card in the mail.  You may begin working once you have been approved by BSIS or when you have received your guard card.  Once students receive their Guard Card the state requires that 8 hours of mandatory training and 8 hours of elective training be completed during the first month.  Students then have until the sixth month to complete the final 8 hours of mandatory and 8 hours of elective training.

Our guard skills classes begin @ 9:00am and are held at 1111 Alta Vista.  (Click for Directions)

Monterey is the nearest cross street.  The classroom is attached to Busby Air Conditioning.  Enter through the door with the white awning.  Pre-registration is required.  Students must bring a photo ID and their Guard Card if they have received it when attending class.

Applying for your guard card on-line (to be completed after completing the 8hr Power to Arrest Training):

Once you have completed the application on-line, you now must have your fingerprints taken at an approved outlet.  This process of fingerprinting is called Livescan.  There are several ways of handling the livescan process:

  • You may call the Kern County Sheriff’s Department on Norris Road and obtain an appointment to complete the livescan process.  The fee for this is approximately $66.00.  Please call 661-391-7788.
  • You may call 1-800-315-4507 to schedule and appointment with the Sylvan Livescan facility in order to complete the livescan process.  The fee for this is approximately $74.00.
